P&S Council will discuss retirement program

The Professional and Scientific Council will discuss a retirement incentives program for the university at its meeting Thursday.

Brenda Van Beek, vice president for the P&S Council, said the university’s current program has expired.

The retirement incentive program would encourage people to retire and save the university money, she said. Van Beek serves on the compensation and benefits committee of the council.

Kevin Kane, president of the P&S Council, said the retirement program is a way to help manage the university’s budget.

The council will also discuss ways to deal with budget cuts to the P&S Council, he said.

Changes to the P&S Council constitution will also be discussed. Currently, if a member of the council changes jobs within the university, they are asked to give up their position on the council, Kane said. The new constitution would allow those who change jobs within the university to stay on the council until the end of the year.

The council may discuss ISU President Gregory Geoffroy’s calendar recommendation, Kane said.

Committees of the P&S Council will meet from noon to 2 p.m. and the council will meet from 2 to 4 p.m. in the Pioneer Room of the Memorial Union.
