Ames man stabbed in money dispute, police say

A man who walked into Mary Greeley Medical Center early Saturday morning reported being stabbed by another individual.

According to the Ames Police Department, James Jennings, 31, 915 Maxwell Ave., was treated and released for two stab wounds to his left shoulder.

Mary Greeley Medical Center reported the incident to the Ames Police Department, who then began an investigation.

Following witness statements and an investigation, Dwan Carter, 32, 616 8th St. #1, was taken into custody without incident at his home after an arrest warrant was issued earlier that day, said Lt. Mike Brennan, Ames Police Department.

The stabbing occurred with a knife at a party on 823 Burnett Ave. #3 that Jennings had attended, Brennan said.

Brennan said Jennings and Carter had a dispute about money, after which the assault occurred. Brennan said the individuals knew each other.

A witness to the stabbing called a cab to take Jennings to Mary Greeley Medical Center.

Carter was charged with willful injury, which is a Class D felony, and is being held on $35,000 bond.
