LETTER: Self worth is within, not found in others
December 9, 2003
This letter is regarding Alicia Ebaugh’s Dec. 8 column, “Bring ‘normal’ women back to entertainment.” Ms. Ebaugh believes the troubles of women are influenced by the popular media. But this tired feminist argument falls apart quickly when simple logic is injected into the equation.
The images seen in mass media are caricatures of men and women. According to these caricatures, the ideal man should be rich, athletic and well-endowed. Where is the cry of outrage for the average man who can never live up to these exaggerated standards?
Ms. Ebaugh is a bitter and angry person whose self worth is measured solely by the attention she receives from others. The message that she and her feminist ilk sells to young girls is far more dangerous than any fiction given to the them by the popular media. My daughters will learn their self worth comes from within, not from others.
