LETTER: Support Rec Plex for future of Ames

On Dec. 9, there is an important vote taking place in the Ames community. Voters will go to the polls to determine whether the City of Ames will devote public funds to build a Recreation and Aquatic Center facility. As an ISU alumnus and current Ames resident, I encourage every ISU student to participate in the election and support the proposed Rec Plex.

There are many reasons why the Rec Plex would benefit ISU students. The proposed Rec Plex would include two indoor pools, waterslides, a climbing wall, six indoor basketball courts, an indoor running track and a workout facility. In addition, the Rec Plex would have a large outdoor pool with zero depth entry, water slides and a lap swim pool.

By supporting the Rec Plex on Dec. 9, you will leave a legacy to future ISU students. This is an opportunity for current students to leave Iowa State and the Ames community a better place than when they arrived.

The Rec Plex will provide a perfect place for fraternities and sororities to host rush functions, philanthropies and informal fun. The Rex Plex could also alleviate overcrowding at the Lied Recreation Center.

I urge each and every ISU student to visit www.amesrecplex.com. The Web site includes pictures of the proposed Rec Plex and more information as to why the time is right for the Rec Plex.

Please vote yes on Dec. 9!
