LETTER: Being inconsiderate is dangerous, too
November 13, 2003
I just wanted to write and tell Jared Strong, regarding his Nov. 11 column, “Annoyances abound in public life,” that I totally agree there is an overabundance of rude people! It was very refreshing for me to read his article. His “rants” sound very similar to my own.
I especially agree with him about the pedestrians who stroll across busy streets like they own the road. Stop being inconsiderate!
The other day I was walking my dog in my neighborhood and there were a group of teen age boys riding their bikes side-by-side instead of riding in single file. Call me old fashioned, but I thought bikers were supposed to ride in single file on streets. Then one of them had the nerve to tell a driver trying to get around them to “slow down.”
Anyway, I felt like yelling to them, “You should be riding single file, not three across! You are the ones being rude!” I guess bikers think they don’t have to follow any rules or street signs. Which, like you mentioned, is annoying and highly dangerous.
So thank you, Mr. Strong, for writing such a terrific column. Let’s hope it will wake some people up to be more considerate.
