ISU students will put on their game faces to duke it out at rock-paper-scissors, thumb wrestling and paper football Monday.

Barton, Lyon, Freeman and Fisher-Nickell Hall residents are having a fourth grade game night at 7 p.m. in the den in Barton Hall.

Nicole Asmussen, junior in political science and the vice president for Anders House, said she thought up the idea of a paper-rock-scissors tournament.

Asmussen said some people were reluctant about the tournament, but the Anders House wanted to do it, so they worked it into the fourth grade game night.

Daniel Burke, senior in computer engineering and BLFF/N programming board president, said the events will be similar to games children play in elementary school.

“There will be a paper-rock-scissors tournament, paper football, a fortune teller and a thumb wrestling contest,” he said.

Kool-Aid and candy will be provided for participants, Burke said.

“We program events throughout the semester, but this is the first time we have done a fourth grade game night,” Burke said.

In the paper-rock-scissors tournament, players that win the best out of seven will advance to the next round with single elimination tournament, Asmussen said.

The winner of the tournament will receive a trophy constructed of rocks, paper and scissors glued together and spray-painted gold, she said.

“We might make it a traveling trophy, so student’s will have to fight to keep it from year to year,” Asmussen said.

The purpose for programming activities is not only for fun, but also to bring the residents together, she said.

Burke agreed.

“We are the only residence hall that is split up, so the events provide a way to have fun with other houses,” Burke said.
