Royalty in training

The best thing to use to create breasts is a mixture of Jell-O, flour and pudding in balloons. Make sure to double up balloons though, in case one breaks.
Jackson Chandler, a performer with the Des Moines group Youth Unlimited, said bigger girls can also make cleavage using duct tape and finish by using pantyhose stuffed with cotton.
The underwear takes more work, he said. First you put on a pair of regular brief underwear.
“Then you take your manhood and yank it backwards and up as far as you can,” he said. “Now for skinnier people, there’s a more painful way to do it. I really feel sorry for those skinny bitches.”
He said smaller drag queens wear a thong and use duct tape to bind themselves.
Chandler, along with Ross Wallace, president of Youth Unlimited, helped run the Drag Camp Thursday night. They gave tips on makeup, clothing, style and music for people who want to perform in drag shows.
Chandler said his motivation for the workshop is because he loves to perform, and he makes good money.
“I despise the work and pain and suffering that goes into being a drag queen, but for the ten minutes I’m on stage, I love it,” he said. “I’ll usually walk out of a show with about $30 in tips.”
Performing in drag shows has also made him more accepted, he said.
“It’s OK to be fat when you’re a drag queen,” he said.
However, drag shows are not all about men dressing as women.
While a group of about 10 people observed Wallace apply makeup to another drag queen, 10 women gathered in a nearby restroom to learn how to apply facial hair, stuff socks in their pants and bind their chests with Ace bandages.
“There’s not a lot of makeup involved for drag kings,” said Anne Wiltgen, special events coordinator for the LGBTAA. “It’s more about facial hair.”
For drag queens, hiding hair is the issue.
Chandler said he prefers to cover his leg hair with several layers of pantyhose. He also waxes or plucks his eyebrows.
“I found out recently I could pluck this,” he said, pointing to his chin.
There are many myths people believe about drag queens and kings, Chandler said.
“One common misconception is that all drag queens want to be a girl,” he said. “Not true. I like having a dick.”
The camp was held as a part of the LGBTAA National Coming Out Days to help people prepare for the two Drag Shows this Saturday. Tickets for the event are on sale from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday at the Memorial Union.
