Recreational services has spent the past two years upgrading its facilities to allow more recreational opportunities for ISU students, faculty and staff.

Garry Greenlee, associate director of recreation services, said improvements were made to the basketball courts in Beyer Hall, State Gym and Forker Building.

The racquetball courts in Beyer Hall and the volleyball courts in Forker Building also received similar upgrades, he said.

Improvements have also been made in Lied Recreation Center. Greenlee said new artificial turf, a climbing wall, foosball tables and a fitness center were added to expand the choices students have for recreational activities.

“Anything that we can do to provide [students] with new stuff and things to do, we’ll do it,” Greenlee said.

Greenlee said recreation services is “always working on what’s next.” Among the projects up for proposal are improvements to the State Gym pool, a new paintball facility at the Southwest Athletic Complex tennis courts, and a new disc golf course on the northeast corner of 13th Street and Stange Road.

Mike Harvey, director of recreation services, said $3 from the student fees paid each semester by fulltime students goes into the Facility Improvement Fund. Harvey said the majority of funding comes from this fund.

Additional funding comes from rental accounts that collect money for the use of recreation services facilities by other organizations, Harvey said. Each building has a rental account that recycles money back into that facility.

“We utilize our student funding in a responsible manner that provides a maximum return to the students and other patrons,” Harvey said.
