LETTER: Tailgating bill still on floor of senate

Of the stipulations mentioned in Tom Barton’s Oct. 21 article, “Deal with administration should have helped to stop tailgating debate,” and the progress made on them:

  • “Athletic Director Bruce Van De Velde submit a written letter of apology to GSB and the students about not including students in the parking decision.”

GSB senators received a copy and were told that it would not be published.

  • “Van De Velde appear before students and GSB at a senate meeting and publicly apologize.”

Done.

  • “Van De Velde answer senators’ questions and address their concerns at the meeting.”

Done.

  • “A student-only, alcohol-free lot be created by the university.”

Not yet implemented (to my knowledge, no one has been able to park in Lot S-4 as promised by Tom Hill and other members of the ISU administration).

  • “A student appreciation day be implemented at one of this season’s home football games.”

There have been talks through GSB, but no official plans have been finalized, and it has not been announced by the organizers.

There has been no talk of the bill being taken off the table by any senator, and yet any senator can make that motion.

Tony taking his name off the resolution does not kill it. There are many names on that bill, and even if all the senators would not want their names on the bill, you cannot take your name off a bill just to kill it.
