LETTER: Feasibility study not entirely conclusive

The feasibility study for the new mall supports the proposed development, but claims it may push the market to its limits.

“We would not expect any other developments of this size and scope to be supportable in the Ames market in the foreseeable future,” the report states.

Has anyone checked the lease on the present Wal-Mart store? Often it is written right in the lease that the space can’t be used for retail again for 99 years. Often, when a new Super Wal-Mart is built, the old building sits empty for years until the city can peddle it for something else.

That won’t show up in a feasibility analysis. Taxpayers, beware!
