Assault sends one to hospital
October 5, 2003
An assault and robbery that occurred near C.Y. Stephens Auditorium Saturday sent one person to the hospital, ISU Police reported Sunday.
Jesse Stephenson, freshman in pre-architecture, reported to ISU Police Saturday that three or four white males began following Stephenson and then attacked him.
His wallet, which held a small amount of cash, and personal items were stolen after the attack, said ISU Police Capt. Gene Deisinger.
Stephenson reported the assault to police at 7:48 p.m., according to the ISU Police log. Deisinger said Stephenson said he was walking from Jack Trice Stadium to the Richardson Court Association residence halls at the time of the assault.
Deisinger said Stephenson “woke up and was experiencing pain” after the attack. Upon waking up, Stephenson believed an assault had occurred.
Stephenson declined to comment on the situation.
Stephenson was transported to Mary Greeley Medical Center for injuries, Deisinger said. He was treated and released.
Stephenson gave a general description of the attackers but police have no suspects at this time, Deisinger said. It is unknown whether the attackers were ISU students or from the Ames area. He also said it was unknown if there were any witnesses to the assault.
The case is still under investigation, Deisinger said.
It is unknown if alcohol played a role in the situation, Deisinger said.
According to ISU Police records, this is the first reported assault that has occurred during a home football game this season.
