An ISU freshman lost his life in a car accident last week, leaving friends and family to remember his love of farming and athletics.

Bradley Graham Jr., 19, was a freshman in agricultural business. He was from Lake Park, Iowa.

Graham died in a one-vehicle crash around 2:30 a.m. on Sept. 28. He was alone in the vehicle.

The Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office said the vehicle Graham was driving collided with a bridge in the 1600 block of 130th Avenue, or Dickinson County Road M27, south of Highway 9.

Authorities said the crash remains under investigation.

Graham’s funeral service was held Sept. 30 at the Harris-Lake Park High School gymnasium in Lake Park. The burial took place at the Silver Lake Cemetery in Lake Park.

Graham is survived by his parents, Bradley and Francel Graham, and two older sisters.

Francel described her son as “very outgoing and friendly.”

“[Bradley] was a high achiever,” she said. “He really liked people and was always very kind.”

Francel said Bradley excelled in athletics.

During his senior year of high school, he was named All-State in football, finished seventh at the state wrestling competition and was a member of the 800-meter relay team that made it to the state track competition.

He also enjoyed lifting weights and wakeboarding.

Francel said her son chose to attend Iowa State because of his love of farming and the university’s strong agricultural background.

“Bradley always went [to Iowa State] for 4-H conferences, and he really liked the campus,” she said.

Dennis Peters is the principal of Harris-Lake Park Community School District in Lake Park. Graham attended the school from kindergarten through graduation.

He described Graham as “a very special person.”

“Brad was just an outstanding student and athlete,” he said. “He was very hardworking, whether it was on the academic or athletic side of things. He had excellent rapport with all the students and adults in the building.”

Cody Morrow, freshman in engineering, grew up with Graham in Lake Park and was a good friend of his.

“I started going to daycare with him at age four or five,” he said.

“I’ll remember [Bradley] because no matter how busy he was, he always had time for his friends.”
