Datapalooza benefits electronically impaired

The electronically impaired may benefit from Parks Library’s Datapalooza, an event designed to provide information on electronic research options.

Those wondering how to research information for papers and projects will have the chance to get their questions answered from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday in the library’s reference area.

Cindi Jorstad, Parks Library assistant, said the event was held for the first time last spring. The library would like to hold this event every semester, she said.

Datapalooza is an open house with a relaxed atmosphere where demonstrations of different electronic databases are given to patrons, Jorstad said.

“A lot of people don’t realize what we’ve got available,” she said.

Tips and ideas will be offered at work stations according to the subject discipline. Particular areas of study such as agriculture, government resources and women’s studies will be stationed along with 10 other areas, Jorstad said.

Datapalooza is designed for anybody who has the need to use library resources, she said.

A demonstration of three multi-disciplinary databases will be offered each hour, she said. The Web of Knowledge, Ingenta and Find It databases will be featured at Datapalooza, she said.

“There are so many new electronic products we have available,” Jorstad said. Parks Library is continually adding more electronic products, she said.

She said she hopes people will become more familiar with the products the library has to offer.
