LETTER: Edwards has plan for college students
October 20, 2003
There is one issue that’s not getting enough attention in the presidential race. We all know how important a college education is to get ahead in the world these days, but every year, qualified students can’t go because they can’t afford it.
Sen. John Edwards is one candidate who is talking about the issue, and he has a plan to solve it. His “College for Everyone” plan will provide one year of free tuition to public universities and community colleges for every student who qualifies — and is willing to work 10 hours a week for it.
This plan will give students who want to go to college but don’t know how to pay for it a way to get started.
It gives them a chance to learn more about financial aid options to keep them in school.
Students will learn the value of their education by working for it and earning it.
Edwards understands this issue, because he was the first in his family to go to college.
Edwards worked his way through with a number of different jobs.
We can trust him to deliver his “College for Everyone” plan.
That’s why I’m supporting John Edwards for president.
