LETTER: Campus clean-up promoted unity

Last Sunday morning, the South Campus Area Neighborhood Association sponsored a clean-up event attended by 35-40 volunteers: neighbors and representatives from Greek chapters were joined by city planner Jeff Benson and two Ames City Council members.

Neighborhood association members enjoyed the time we spent getting to know our Greek neighbors better, with all of us working for the good of the South Campus Area. A $200 check from the City has been donated to the Greek fund to landscape the traffic triangle on Sunset.

Despite the media who profile tension between residents and students, last Sunday was a truly cooperative effort to help our neighborhood. We believe most students don’t like the plastic cups, beer cartons, cans and broken glass that litter the streets and lawns any more than homeowners do.

We thank all of you for your help, and we hope that our combined efforts will inspire others to help keep the south campus area neighborhood looking good for all its residents.
