An Ames man was arrested and charged Monday by the Ames Police Department after police said he exposed his child using a Web cam.

Michael Hurt, 36, 202 E. Lincoln Way Room 101, was charged with sexual exploitation of a minor and lascivious acts, said Ames Police Cmdr. Jim Robinson.

According to Story County court records, on the afternoon of Aug. 11, Hurt placed his son in front of a computer screen with a camera attached to a live feed at the Lincoln Lodge Motel, 202 E. Lincoln Way.

The records indicate Hurt exposed the child’s genitals to the party on the receiving end of the live feed in an online chat room.

The record further stated this act “was done just after [Hurt] had masturbated on camera.”

The incident lasted for a matter of minutes, Robinson said.

According to Story County court records, Hurt had “done this on a prior occasion.”

“We received information from the Nevada Police Department who received a call from a private citizen,” Robinson said.

The Ames Police Department headed up the investigation along with Story County Sheriff’s Office and the Nevada Police Department.

Hurt has been charged with a Class C felony, which is punishable with up to 10 years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

He is being held on a $75,000 bond at the Story County Sheriff’s Office.

His preliminary hearing is set for 1 p.m. on Oct. 10 at the Story County Justice Center.
