LETTER: Using blinkers is a common courtesy
September 14, 2003
Every day I drive around Ames, running many of the same errands as anyone else going about the daily business we all refer to as life. I, like most of you, am a student.
It has come to my attention lately that the number of automobile manufacturers who produce cars with malfunctioning blinkers has severely increased.
Everywhere I go, people are constantly turning and making lane changes. As amazing as it may seem, their blinkers don’t work!
The truth is, people have forgotten this feature is standard on all the vehicles that we own. Just yesterday I saw an ISU law enforcement vehicle turn without the use of his or her blinker! This problem is surely deep-seated, but can be overcome with a little common sense.
Using your blinker while turning was once a common courtesy. Somehow this has gone by the wayside. Automobile manufacturers put this feature on your car for a reason. The least not being to use it.
