Volleyball match against tough Husker team moved to Omaha
September 23, 2003
Because of a scheduling conflict at Hilton Coliseum, the women’s volleyball team will play Nebraska in Omaha, Neb., Wednesday night.
The match, which will be a home game for the Cyclones, is tentatively scheduled for 7 p.m., following the first match between Bellevue University and College of St. Mary, which starts 5 p.m. The matches will be held in the Omaha Civic Auditorium.
The Business/LAS Fall Career Day takes place at Hilton Coliseum from 1 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, necessitating the move.
Iowa State comes into this game after losing to Baylor 3-1 on Saturday, while Nebraska, which is No. 7 in the country, comes in with an overall record of 10-1 and is 2-0 in Big 12 competition.
“Nebraska is always very successful with their volleyball program,” ISU head coach Linda Crum said.
“The Big 12 is a very tough conference. There are a lot of teams in our conference who are also in the top 25 of the country.”
The Cyclones started off the season with a record of 5-0, but have since lost five of their last seven matches, bringing their overall record to 7-5, 0-2 in Big 12 Conference play.
To end their current losing streak, the Cyclones must keep relying on the strong leadership of their seniors, Crum said.
“I have been very impressed with our seniors so far this year,” Crum said. “They are so committed to this season and helping us in what is a rebuilding year for the program.”
Those seniors are Renae Pruess, Lindsey Chapman, Michelle Gannon and Dana Koziol.
“Each senior has been so helpful, whether it be by their great play on the court, or in their leadership and teaching off the court,” Crum said.
“The motto for this year is ‘The Time is Now,’ and our seniors are all compelled to see that motto lived out to its fullest extent.”
After Nebraska, the Cyclones’ schedule won’t get any easier.
Their next 5 opponents — Colorado, Texas Tech, Missouri, Oklahoma and Texas A&M — have a combined record of 42-16.
