LETTER: Making only student lots dry is unfair

The Government of the Student Body has introduced a bill asking the university to create an alcohol-free student football parking lot. The university has said they cannot condone any student drinking and that the only way for students to have their own parking lot would be if it is alcohol-free. So by their reasoning, shouldn’t they make all the National Cyclone Club parking lots alcohol-free as well? If the university cannot condone drinking for one group, it cannot condone it for another.

Iowa State made the decision to make more money by moving donors in and kicking students out. They said they should have informed the students before making the decision, but they deal with problems as they come up. It seems odd the problem came up in the middle of summer, a long time after the last football season when the complaints should have been made. The university made this decision over the summer so they wouldn’t have to deal with its repercussions. They wanted more money from donors, that’s it. The university knew, however, that if they told the students the real reason they got kicked out, the students would have a huge problem with it.

Administrators have blamed this entire situation on student behavior and drinking to cover up their motives. They need to stop using us as a cover and just confess they wanted to make more money. If student actions were the real reason behind the decision, just moving the students and their actions to a different location would solve nothing.ΓΏ

Which looks more embarrassing: Students tailgating, or having the closest parking lots empty until an hour before game time?
