I just wanted to address one of Nicole Asmussen’s comments in her Sept. 24 letter, “Patriot Act panel wasn’t a real debate.”

None of the panel members “falsely” linked the Patriot Act with bans on books. If Ms. Asmussen had been paying attention during the discussion, she would have learned that items have already been removed from public libraries as a result of the “war on terrorism” and the Patriot Act. If this isn’t a parallel to banning books, then what do you call it?

It is unfortunate that Ms. Asmussen is choosing to ignore the realities of this attack on our civil liberties.
