Names released in two-car interstate accident
September 24, 2003
The Story County Sheriff’s Office released the names Wednesday of three individuals involved in a car accident on Interstate 35 Tuesday night.
Colleen Froiland, Spencer, was traveling northbound on I-35 with her daughter, Jolene Froiland of Rochester, Minn., when she lost control of her vehicle near the 13th Street exit, swerved into the median and ended back on the interstate, perpendicular to traffic.
Kevin Jenkins, Des Moines, was driving a Chrysler LHS Northbound on I-35 when he struck the driver’s side of Froiland’s car, a Mercury Grand Marquis, at highway speed. Jenkins did not see Froiland’s car in the road, said Capt. Gary Foster, Story County Sheriff’s Office.
Jenkins was transported to Mary Greeley Medical center for minor injuries, said Sgt. Barry Thomas, Story County Sheriff’s Department.
Colleen and Jolene Froiland were also transported to Mary Greeley Medical Center, Thomas said.
Colleen sustained serious injuries while her daughter sustained minor injuries.
Mary Greeley Medical Center officials would not release the conditions of the patients at the time of publication.
“Both drivers of the vehicles were cited,” Thomas said.
Further charges are pending following an investigation.
Northbound traffic on I-35 was stopped for one and a half to two hours while officials investigated the scene and treated the injured.
The Ames Police Department, Iowa State Patrol, Story County Sheriffs Office and the Iowa Department of Transportation assisted at the scene.
