Volleyball team loses to Colorado

The ISU volleyball team dropped its fourth Big 12 Conference match in a row, losing Saturday night to Colorado 3-1.
The loss gave the Cyclones a 0-4 conference mark and evened their overall record at 7-7. Colorado improved its record to 10-4 overall, 2-2 in the conference.
Cyclone freshman Katie Jessen had a career-high 12 kills in the match, while sophomore Katie Kruenegel added 10.
Colorado held the offensive edge, leading the Cyclones also with 67 kills to 43, and beat Iowa State defensively with 69 digs to 61 for the Cyclones. However, Iowa State held a 30-15 edge in blocks.
Sophomore Ashlie McWee had eight block assists, a career high. Senior Renae Pruess also had eight blocks.
The first two games were close, but Colorado pulled away in the late stages to take the first by a score of 30-22 and the second by a 30-21 score.
In Game 1, the score was tied at 20 before the Buffaloes ran off six unanswered points and held off the Cyclones for the game win. The second game saw Colorado leading 19-17 before another six-point run that won the game and gave the Buffaloes a 2-0 lead.
Game 3 belonged to the Cyclones. Iowa State took advantage of numerous hitting errors by the Buffaloes, especially late.
With Colorado leading 29-27, the Cyclones forced three straight attacking errors and took a 30-29 lead, going on to win 34-32 and cut the match deficit to 2-1.
In Game 4, Colorado proved to be too much for the Cyclones, as the Buffaloes won 30-19. The Buffaloes had 19 kills to the Cyclones’ 11 in the game.
Iowa State now continues on the road, facing Texas Tech Wednesday at 7 p.m.
The Cyclones return home for the first time since Sept. 20 when they face Missouri at 2 p.m. Saturday in Hilton Coliseum.
