Siberia brings shivers to Stephens Auditorium
September 29, 2003
At Stephens Auditorium on Tuesday night, audiences won’t have to travel halfway across the world to catch a glimpse of a faraway culture. The dances of Siberia and its surrounding regions will be performed by The Krasnoyarsk National Dance Company of Siberia.
The show will feature traditional folk and modern dance from the troupe’s region of the world, but will focus specifically on traditional dances of Siberia as well.
Fifty to 60 men and women, directed by Mikhail Godenko, will perform a mix of songs ranging from ballads to lighter cheerful pieces. The troupe will perform the Cossack, a popular Russian dance, and a celebration song featuring a merry-go-round party theme. Items such as spoons and birch bark will also be used in one of the dances to reflect the company’s culture.
