ISU senior sinks hole in one

An ISU student recently became only the second person to sink a hole in one at Ames’ newest golf course, Coldwater Golf Links.

Josh Ehlen, senior in finance, nailed the lucky shot Thursday.

Ehlen and Aaron Olson, senior in finance, were just wrapping up their round when they approached the elevated tee box on the 16th hole.

Ehlen, who used to play golf for his high school team in Belle Plaine, said he is no stranger to the excitement of a hole in one.

“I’ve hit one before, in my junior year of high school,” he said.

Despite the fact this was not Ehlen’s first hole in one, a celebration was still in order after he sunk the shot on the 153-yard 16th hole.

A small creek flows in front of the green at the 16th hole, and a standing water hazard borders the right side. Ehlen stood atop the tee box and settled over his ball with an eight iron.

“It was dead scary,” Olson said. “The shot was short of the pin, but dead even with it; it just rolled in.”

Ehlen’s name will be inscribed on a plaque in the clubhouse at Coldwater Golf Links, South 16th Street.
