Free hamburgers, sodas and live music will be the focus of the first Government of the Student Body meeting of the year, as a bill will be introduced to revive Friday night parties on the terrace of the Memorial Union before home football games.
The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Campanile Room of the Memorial Union. At the meeting, Engineering Senator Leia Guccione will introduce a bill she authored to revive terrace parties.
Tony Luken, speaker of the senate, said terrace parties have been held at Iowa State in the past.
“It’s a chance for students to get together to celebrate the week and to kick off the next upcoming home football game,” Luken said.
Luken also said new Memorial Union Director Richard Reynolds supports the effort to revive the parties and is willing to work with GSB on the project.
He said there is no definite date set for when the terrace parties would start if the bill were passed by the senate, but he did say the parties could start as early as Friday, Sept. 5.
According to GSB bylaws, “All students are members of GSB and are encouraged to take part in the discussion of Bills and Senate Orders if they feel they can provide helpful information or if they have concerns about matters under discussion.”
