LETTER: ISU club teams are left unrepresented

I and other members of my ultimate frisbee team, the Fern Betterment Society, were disappointed when our victory in the Iowa Games was only worthy of mention in the last paragraph of Lucas Grundmeier’s July 22 article, “Ultimate frisbee is ‘more than just a simple game.'”

The Iowa State Daily is a student newspaper that should focus on ISU students. Instead, the author of the article decided to focus on the Urbandale and Des Moines teams that participated.

Looking back through the Daily’s archives, I see that the 2003 Iowa Games coverage is the first ultimate frisbee coverage this year. Not only that, but I find that the only other coverage comes mainly from intramurals and the 2002 Iowa Games.

I read the sports section of the Daily and see coverage of national events and statewide events, but I hardly ever see coverage what our very own club sport teams participate in.

ISUC travels all over the place and comes home with victories that no one hears about. There are regional tournaments and sectional tournaments. There are co-ed tournaments and men’s and women’s tournaments.

Don’t get me wrong — the Daily is good if you’re looking for news on official ISU sports teams or professional team coverage. But students are interested in what is going on with their own school. I can get national and pro team information anywhere, but I should be able to look at the Iowa State Daily and find articles about teams at my own school.
