LETTER: Changing tailgating lots is poor decision
July 2, 2003
As a 2003 graduate of Iowa State and a five-year supporter of ISU athletics, I was appalled to read in the Daily that the athletic department is considering taking away student tailgating from Jack Trice Stadium.
I have some great memories from tailgating in the S lots, memories that I defend now as a graduate student at the University of Wisconsin — a school that only thinks they know how to have a good time.
If the athletic department carries through with this threat, you can count on the withdrawal of my support and the support of many of my classmates who share similar memories.
The statement that it is for security purposes is merely salt in the wound. Come on you guys, that is so September 11. I’m pretty sure I tailgated before the 2001 Iowa/Iowa State game that year without a national security threat being levied.
In short, if you take tailgating away from the students, just put the bandwagon on up on cinderblocks, and God help the ‘Clones. At least suck it up and tell everyone you’re doing it for the cash.
