LETTER: Women willing to pose not exploited

Sorry, but pictures of nude women aren’t the root of men’s psychological problems, nor do they exploit the women who are posing for them. Since exploitation requires a one-sided advantage, anyone getting paid for some pictures has no disadvantage since it is their choice to accept the job offer or not.

I fail to see any valid argument, made by Leslie Heuer in her July 10 column “Posing nude only exploits, not empowers women,” against the use of nude or semi-nude pictures of women in both pornographic and “men’s” magazines. She gave one quote that talks about the page count of pictures in one issue and nothing else. The other quote she used agrees that women getting paid thousands of dollars to do this aren’t exploited at all. She follows up with a very weak rebuttle of ” … fallen pray to the trap.”

What trap? These women know what they are doing, they have seen the magazines and know what type of photo is going to be taken before they begin. It’s not like these women were held at gunpoint and made to do them. It is something they want to do. This concept may be hard for some people to comprehend because they are not as secure with their bodies and sexuality as other women are, meaning they wouldn’t pose like that for any reason. That is fine, but it’s not a reason to believe that other women are being exploited.

As for these magazines and images changing the attitudes of men, Leslie has an interesting theory, but that is all it is and there are no facts backing it up. People with control issues need psychological therapy to help them with their control problems — there isn’t any article in any magazine that is going to help them with that.

Nice try pawning off your conservative views, but next time use some real facts, not opinions.
