Large hail storm damages ISU campus
June 2, 2003
Ten greenhouses on the ISU campus suffered an estimated $150,000 damage following a hail storm Friday morning.
Initial damage observations made Friday afternoon included a broken window on a university vehicle, dents and dings on other university vehicles, and damage to trees and shrubs across campus.
Many of the dings and dents began to pop out of the vehicles as the day grew warmer, said Bob Currie, assistant director of facilities planning and management.
“These damages are typical of large hail storms,” Currie said.
Other areas of concern to Currie included the rooftops of several buildings across campus. The shingles and tiles covering many of the rooftops are often found damaged after hail storms, Currie said.
Damage assessment across campus will continue this week. The reports will then be reviewed by Risk Management, the ISU insurance program and the repairs will begin.
