Rickert defends Big 12 high jump title

Senior high jumper Gina Rickert won her fourth Big 12 championship at the Big 12 track championships in Austin, Texas, Monday.

Rickert jumped 6 feet and 1/2 inch to win her second outdoor high jump title to go with two indoor titles.

Rickert said she had hoped to challenge for a Big 12 meet record.

“Any meet I enter I have three goals. The first is to be physically and mentally ready coming into the meet. Secondly I always aim to win. And my third goal at any meet is to PR or break a record and that’s what I was trying to do here today when I went for the Big 12 record. I wasn’t able to accomplish that but two out of three isn’t bad,” she said.

Junior thrower Susan Sherman scored in three events, with her highest finish a third-place showing in the discus.

For the men, junior Daniel Kaczmarczyk finished fourth in both the long and the triple jump. Junior Ryan Boyington and junior Andy Hadden finished fifth and sixth in the 400-meter hurdles, respectively.

The men’s team and women’s team both finished 11th in team scoring.
