LETTER: Liberals: Strive for more consistency
May 28, 2003
Clever, but not quite right. I have never heard a conservative talk about “legislative immorality” but liberals push the bar of “obedience of the unenforceable” (i.e. — lying: It is not illegal to lie in most cases, but it is still wrong) way beyond the realm of normal.
Let’s look at freedom to choose. Libs advocate choosing abortions, and are therefore “pro-choice.” The libs do not legislate that you must have an abortion under this circumstance or that.
But do they advocate school vouchers? No. You are not allowed to take your tax dollars and choose a well-performing school if your school is failing. Neither would they allow you to choose to own firearms (a Second Amendment right) if they could get the courts to see it their way.
So Steve, maybe liberals don’t legislate immorality, but they do use the courts to get the “lowest common denominator” as you put it.
They use the courts to take away the right of an overwhelming majority of kids to have 30 seconds of silence before graduation, or say a prayer before a football game.
Rick Santorum said allowing certain sex acts to be allowed will open the flood gates for others.
Meanwhile, they do not criticize their own for hoping for a disaster in war, a KKK senate leader (Robert Byrd), praising Osama bin Laden for building roads and daycare (Patty Murray) and lots of others.
Before the libertarians and the liberals trash conservatives for their beliefs, it is advisable for libs to gain some consistency as well.
