LETTER: Eustachy seeking help to fix mistakes
May 1, 2003
Larry Eustachy is the coach of the Iowa State Cyclones. He made one mistake that he is seeking help for. The whole incident has been blown out of proportion. Not only was Larry not doing anything illegal, but the people who were hosting the party were the people supplying minors with alcohol. Why is it that nothing has happened to them and why did this person wait until now to release the pictures?
While he may have embarrassed the basketball program, the basketball players stand behind him and that is what should matter. It takes a real man to admit that he has a problem with alcohol and the way that Coach Eustachy has handled it has been admirable.
Why is it that when Coach Jim Harrick commits illegal activities at Georgia, nobody makes a big deal, but when Coach Eustachy makes a minor mistake, which he admits, he is asked to resign? Why must the initial punishment be so drastic? Larry deserves a second chance. Not only does the basketball team believe this, but I’m willing to bet that a majority of the campus believes in second chances.
