Gymnastics adds two recruits for 2004
May 21, 2003
ISU gymnastics coach K.J. Kindler has received two new commitments to the squad for the 2004 season. Iowa State’s recruiting class for next season now has six members.
Emily Rinaldo and Rachael Parker will join the Cyclones next winter.
Rinaldo, of Wenham, Mass., set the Massachusetts all-around scoring record in 2003 and was chosen Gymnast of the Year by the Boston Globe.
A beam dismount added in 2002 to the Junior Olympic supplement to the USA Gymnastics rulebook is named after Rinaldo.
She chose Iowa State over Nebraska, although several other schools were involved in the recruiting process.
“[Rinaldo] felt comfortable with the Cyclone team and staff, and is anxious for the opportunity to compete for a top-notch program,” Kindler said.
Parker, of Hopkins, Minn., finished in the top two in the Minnesota high school all-around competition the last two years, winning the title in 2002.
Iowa State finished fourth at the Big 12 championships in 2003.
