LETTER: Liberals support troops, not war
April 6, 2003
I’m tired of liberalism being synonymous with communism. I’m tired of being called unpatriotic for opposing an unjustified and unnecessary war. I’m tired of hearing blind, vicious criticism of those of us who are asking for some nuance and creativity in our foreign policy. I am tired of the people in Hollywood being told that they should keep quiet. I’m tired of hearing the expression “freedom fries.” I’m tired of seeing the country that I have grown to love with all of my heart in these 19 short years slide backwards down the slippery slope of enlightenment that we have scratched and clawed so long to climb. I’m tired of the First Amendment being seen as a right of convenience only relevant when our president says so. I’m tired of the idea that might makes right!
Yes, I am sick and tired of all of these things … But I support our troops and I pray for them every night. Maybe we liberals aren’t so bad after all!
