LETTER: Veishea 2003 a huge success
April 16, 2003
What a wonderful Veishea! The weather was perfect. The activities were numerous, fun and educational. Student participation was high. Performances were stellar. The parade was exceptional. Crowds were large. And best of all, the behavior of students and guests was, with just a few exceptions, outstanding, especially considering the tens of thousands of people involved.
We want to congratulate Iowa State’s students for organizing and carrying out this outstanding celebration, especially the Veishea Committee, co-chaired by Cory Bailey and Kerryann Mehmen.
We also want to congratulate and thank the university faculty and staff, the City of Ames staff and the people of Ames for being so supportive. Veishea is a student-run activity and they deserve most of the credit; however, Veishea is also a university/community partnership, which is one of the reasons this tradition has endured for 82 years and successfully weathered some very difficult challenges.
The students did an excellent job of putting “Iowa State on Display” — both its academic excellence and the quality of our student leadership. We couldn’t be prouder of them and the people of this community.
Congratulations!
