LETTER: NOW abortion views hypocritical
April 21, 2003
The Laci Peterson mystery has been unfolding over the last few months and for a while has dominated the news. When the war began a few weeks ago, Laci was all but forgotten until very recently when a twist to the story was revealed.
Police have now charged Scott Peterson with the murder of his wife and their unborn child. Somehow this makes a lot of sense to me but it bothers a woman by the name of Mavra Stark, who is part of the National Organization for Women (NOW). She has been saying that Mr. Peterson should only be charged with the murder of Laci, but not the murder of their unborn son.
The reason this situation bothers Ms. Stark is because if Mr. Peterson is found guilty of murdering his unborn son, plain logic suggests that an abortionist should be found guilty of the same crime.
What this situation shows is a controversy within the pro-abortion community. On one side you have people who call themselves “pro-choice.” On the other side you have a representative of NOW saying that Mr. Peterson should not be charged with the murder of his unborn son. Is this not infringing on Laci Peterson’s “right to choose”?
By all indications, Laci already chose to give birth to their unborn child and they had even picked out a name for him. This situation surely discredits NOW, which claims to be an organization for women, but that doesn’t seem to be for the woman in this case or when it isn’t in their best interest.
