LETTER: Dreams being lost because of war
April 9, 2003
When are we going to understand?
I’m not a politician or a journalist or even a part of any active organizing. I’m just a human dreaming of a peaceful life. I have traveled overseas seeking for a better future. I have dreams. It is better to say I had dreams.
Those dreams are only dreams. Why do we need to drink others’ blood to kill our thirst? This earth was created for us to live together, not to destroy it. Aren’t we learning from history?
How would you accept it if someone killed your parents and claimed it was to give you a better life? How would you accept someone who forced your brother to starve claiming to feed you? How would you accept a drink of a glass of water stolen from your friend who is dying from thirst? Would you live in a stolen house, and feel safe when you close your eyes? How can you smile for the future?
They are showing me pictures of dead bodies, blood and tears on mothers’ faces as they say bye to their kids. Those pictures are daily scenes in my life. Every morning I see pictures printed on the front page of the newspapers. On TV I see news that makes me cry. Honestly, I feel it’s like a daily show or some anatomy or biology class. They made us think it’s OK to see this, and wait for our turn. People, open your eyes; it might be your turn next.
