Students charged with burglary
April 21, 2003
Three ISU students have been charged with first-degree burglary for allowing their friends into another student’s apartment and then watching them beat the student.
Tamicka Brodie, Teniece Hardy and LaChari Robinson, all of 2644 Hunt St. #4, were arrested Thursday and charged with first-degree burglary and aiding and abetting. First-degree burglary is punishable by up to 25 years in prison.
Brodie, from Grandview, Mo., is a sophomore in psychology. Hardy, also from Grandview, Mo., is a sophomore in industrial engineering. Robinson, from Davenport, is a sophomore in elementary education.
Ames Police Cmdr. Jim Robinson, of no relation to the accused, said the incident took place at about 10:30 p.m. March 13.
Cmdr. Robinson said the three women are suspected of going downstairs in their apartment complex to speak to neighbor Adam Hotz, a sophomore in pre-business from Council Bluffs, regarding a noise complaint from the previous evening. The charges the women face relate to an argument with Hotz, after which the women are accused of bringing several of their male friends into the apartment with intent to cause bodily injury to Hotz.
Cmdr. Robinson said it is unknown if more arrests will be made in connection with the case.
A spokesman in the Story County Attorney’s office declined to comment on the case.
A message was left for Brodie, Hardy and Robinson, but was not returned Monday.
Cmdr. Robinson did not know the extent of Hotz’s injuries. Hotz could not be reached for comment Monday.
When asked if a university sanction will be imposed on the three students, Bethany Schuttinga, assistant dean of students in the Office of Judicial Affairs, said she cannot comment on specific cases within the university. She did say, however, Iowa State’s policy is to take action on situations that are in violation of the university conduct code.
