Biking group to sell used, reconditioned bikes Saturday
April 24, 2003
Friends of Central Iowa Biking will hold its annual sale of used and reconditioned bicycles at the corner of 24th Street and Grand Avenue from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m Saturday.
Eric Fralick, vice president of FCIB, said this sale “may be as successful as last year.”
He said last year’s event was held on the “worst day of spring” and still broke fundraising records, raising $1,500 for the Story Country Conservation Board despite the rain that poured all day.
Proceeds will be doubled by the board and are used for local biking improvements, including the development of new bike trails.
The sale will include racing, touring, street and mountain bikes for adults, teens and children, as well as exercise equipment and an adult-sized tricycle. Prices start at $10, Fralick said.
“The sale is about more than raising money,” he said. “It’s also about encouraging an alternative form of transportation, recycling and promoting health and fitness.”
He said the group is still collecting donated bicycles, but will be saved for next year’s sale.
