LETTER: Former CIA agent to speak at Union
April 21, 2003
Ever wonder why the United States has been so ill-prepared to catch Chinese double agents spying on the United States or know what was going on with Osama bin Laden before Sept. 11? Jim Olson will tell us wassup!
Olson is a Senior Lecturer and the CIA Officer in Residence at the Bush School of Government and Public Service (Texas A&M University) in College Station, Texas. He will speak on Thursday, April 28 at the Great Hall, Memorial Union, ISU at 8 p.m.
Olson joined the Central Intelligence Agency in 1969 and served for 31 years, mostly overseas in clandestine operations. He held the positions as Deputy Chief of Station in Moscow and Chief of Station in Vienna and Mexico City. He also served as Chief of Counterintelligence at CIA Headquarters in Langley, Virginia. Professor Olson received his law degree from the University of Iowa in 1969. His stories are enlightening and the reduction of human intelligence ever since the Jimmy Carter presidency left the United States very vulnerable for the past 23 years.
