LETTER: Iowa State removes coaches who care
April 29, 2003
It’s a good thing we get rid of coaches like Trip Hedrick (former men’s swimming coach), who do nothing, but have winning seasons and are a positive influence on their players and represent Iowa State in a positive manner. That’s not the kind of image the Cyclones need and it certainly won’t gain us any respectability among Big 12 schools, the media and the NCAA community in general.
We need to convey to the nation that Iowa State is a school that employs and sticks up for coaches who do things like get drunk with students, bad-mouth their players and have consistent losing seasons. We need to show that this type of coach can have a comfortable tenure at Iowa State and can get highly paid for it.
So come on Iowa Staters, join me in a round of applause and thank President Gregory, Athletic Director Bruce Van De Velde and most importantly “Coach” Larry Eustachy. You make me proud to be a Cyclone! Let’s continue fighting to keep decent, caring coaches with winning track records out of the ranks of the ISU staff.
