Candidates to be placed on ballot

The candidates running for positions in the Inter-Residence Hall Association will be officially placed on the ballot at Thursday’s meeting.

Eric Peters, Willow Hall representative, is running unopposed for IRHA president.

Justin Rasmussen, Richardson Court Association president, is running unopposed for IRHA vice president, said Heather Minish, IRHA election commissioner.

Rasmussen said he believes IRHA meetings are run efficiently as they are now.

However, he said he would like to see communication increase between students and the Department of Residence.

IRHA needs “closer communication and coordination with the Department of Residence,” Rasmussen said.

He also said he would like to “assure student voices are heard” by the department.

Rasmussen said he doesn’t expect to run unopposed, but the candidate running against him would have to be a write-in candidate.

To be placed on the official ballot, candidates need to get 100 signatures from all three associations, Rasmussen said.

However, the petitions were due last Friday.

Rasmussen said that, between he and Peters, their slate has the experience and the drive to make IRHA run smoothly.

Rasmussen said he and Peters have had several brainstorming sessions about IRHA.

During break they are planning on meeting and making more concrete plans, he said.

So far “the focus has been getting on the ballot,” Rasmussen said. “We have the ground work laid.”

The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday in the Pioneer Room of the Memorial Union.
