IRHA to address surplus, extra funding

A bill calling for a special newspaper account to be developed will be brought to members of the Inter-Residence Hall Association Thursday.

Students currently pay $10 per semester for the Newspaper Readership program to be available in the residence halls, said Colleen Prosser, Towers Residence Association treasurer. Right now the money paid for newspapers goes into IRHA’s general fund, she said.

The new account will hold the money students pay for the newspapers, Prosser said. The program was started two years ago and “has been really successful,” she said.

The purpose of having a new account is to make sure the money is getting spent on the newspaper program, she said.

“[This is an] effort to make better accounting practices [for IRHA], Prosser said.

There is a surplus in funds, she said.

The newspaper dues may be reduced to $8.50 per semester because of the surplus, Prosser said.

Another bill being brought to IRHA is asking for funds to be allocated toward ExTRAvaganza, Prosser said.

The bill is not calling for extra funding.

She also said a bill may be the best way for TRA to get funding through the ResHall Week budget.

A bill proposing IRHA’s budget for next year will also be brought up at the meeting.

The IRHA meeting will be held at 7 p.m. in the Oak Room in Memorial Union.
