IRHA presidency is uncontested
March 28, 2003
The only slate vying for Inter-Residence Hall Association president and vice president spoke about their vision for the future of IRHA at Thursday’s meeting.
Eric Peters, presidential candidate and current Willow Hall representative, and Justin Rasmussen, vice-presidential candidate and current Richardson Court Association president said they would like to see more non-IRHA members involved in the organization.
Peters said he would like to be able to post previous semesters’ syllabi from professors online so students know what to expect from classes before the beginning of each semester.
Rasmussen added he and Peters would like to work with the Department of Residence and “resolve [problems] in a mature and efficient manner.” Elections will be April 2.
Members were also informed each Helser resident is being charged $11.65 for the repairs resulting from vandalism that occurred in Helser Hall the weekend of Jan. 31.
Replacements for damaged doors in Helser will be installed April 15 and the total cost of repairs will be $6,931.38, said James Vogl, Helser Hall representative.
Sarai Arnold, co-creator of the “Got Ignorance?” campaign, which is designed to increase awareness of discriminatory acts on campus, spoke to IRHA about the groups’ events being held on campus. Students will be offered shirts with names of universities who have had some sort of large-scale discriminatory act at a price “as close to free as possible,” Arnold said. The event, which will consist of speakers and skits, will be held April 11 in front of Parks Library.
Also at the meeting, IRHA Adviser John Shertzer said the Department of Residences’ terms and conditions have been changed and will be posted on the department’s Web site, www.iastate.edu/~dor/.
