Group cooperation subject of forum
March 5, 2003
Greater cooperation between the Professional and Scientific Council and the Faculty Senate will be discussed during an open forum at noon Thursday in the Gallery Room of the Memorial Union.
The topic of the council’s meeting for this month is “Faculty Senate Current Priorities and Opportunities to Work Together,” given by Max Wortman, president of the Faculty Senate and distinguished professor of management.
Wortman said he plans to speak to the council about what Faculty Senate has accomplished this year and things that still need to be done.
“[I will] talk about things that overlap with the P&S Council and how we can be of greater cooperation together,” Wortman said.
Rex Heer, council president, said he asked Wortman to speak so the council would know the issues the senate deals with.
“I asked him to talk of initiatives that the Faculty Senate is undertaking,” he said.
Heer said the council is seeking to improve communication and cooperation among several groups.
“This grew out of a question the P&S Council had about developing stronger communication among all campus constituents,” he said.
Heer said the communication has improved.
“There was not as close a collaboration between the groups before recently,” he said. “It has been great working with them.”
Heer said the groups have overlapping issues but different perspectives.
“It is nice to share and understand other groups,” he said.
