LETTER: Pro-war activists should hold rallies
March 25, 2003
Over spring break, the war with Iraq took full flight, yet protesters continue to protest. Freedom of speech allows people to voice their opinions and I am thankful that people have chosen to use their right.
Unfortunately, I disagree with them. Let me break it down for all the anti-war protesters out there. Remember a little thing called the “American Revolution?”
In this war, we fought for independence, correct? We also fought for our rights, freedom of speech, the right to worship freely, etc. That war allowed protesters to do what they do now: voice their opinions.
However, this contradicts them. World War I and World War II helped protect people’s freedom of speech and gave some people the right to live. Yet people protested those wars too.
Don’t get me wrong, no war is good, but some wars need to be fought. Personally, I think the “pro-war” people should be doing what the protesters are doing. We should be standing outside with signs saying “Support our Troops,” “Down with Saddam,” and “Honk if you Hate Saddam.”
I’m calling out to all those who want to help liberate the Iraqi people. Show your support for the president, the troops and for freedom everywhere.
We won’t be protesters, we’ll be supporters.
Just remember, people wanted to leave Hitler alone too.
