LETTER: ISU volunteers help donation education
March 6, 2003
A big thank you goes out to Lindsey Barness and Amber Long (along with many, many other Iowa State students)! This week a dedicated group of students are working hard to educate their peers about organ and tissue donation in Iowa. This simple act of volunteerism may indeed save a life, help someone to see clearly again or help someone walk unassisted and without pain.
With over 330 people in Iowa waiting for a life-saving organ transplant and hundreds more waiting for cornea and tissue transplants, this group of young leaders have taken a very serious program to heart.
At the beginning of this week, students began receiving information on the Iowa Donor Registry, a computerized database where anyone in Iowa can legally record their wishes to become an organ and/or tissue donor.
It is our hope that other universities follow the lead of Iowa State in promoting the registry as an important tool to be utilized by the citizens and students in our great state.
