LETTER: Dedication boosts Banasiak/Albright
March 11, 2003
This week, you, the students of Iowa State, will choose the Government of the Student Body executives who you trust to take advantage of the opportunities and overcome the challenges that face you over the next year. These executives will represent you to the administration and to governing officials, and will fight alongside you for your concerns.
During my tenure at Iowa State, I had the distinct privilege to work with Michael Banasiak and Ben Albright. Mike Banasiak has fought for students for the past three years. His leadership has been characterized by his service to the ISU community. I watched Mike serve many long hours for students in many capacities throughout the university. He did not always receive the credit that he may have deserved, but he always acted unselfishly and never complained about the work he was doing.
Ben Albright has been one of the most respected and trusted people in GSB for the past two years, and has the ability to lead the GSB Senate very well.
All candidates for GSB have goals for Iowa State’s future, and make promises to students about what they will do for them.
However, very few candidates have the ability, the experience and the genuine concern for students that is required. Many candidates make promises, yet these promises will amount to little more than unfulfilled dreams without a solid plan of action, and the experience to put them into practice.
The slates in this year’s election all have similar goals, however, there is only one slate with the ability and purpose to make those goals reality. Mike and Ben have sought student support by steadily working to convey their message to students. They have not shamelessly berated and mocked the hard work and effort of fellow students in an attempt to put themselves into office. This is the difference between candidates who seek to serve students, and candidates who seek to serve themselves. There are very few people I would trust more than Mike Banasiak and Ben Albright to lead Iowa State into the future, and I hope you will support them by casting your vote on March 10 and 11.
