LETTER: Violence started by violence, not peace
March 13, 2003
Is peace merely the result of “inaction” as Mr. Clark claims? If so, then there can never be peace because violent action (rather than inaction) can always be taken somewhere in the world to promote conditional “peace,” or rather further violence. The only problem with Mr. Clark’s illogical peaceful inaction argument is that it neglects the wisdom of the proverb: Violence begets violence, peace begets peace.
More research on the current dilemma can be easily accomplished by going to the Foreign Policy In Focus (“A Think Tank Without Walls”) Web site.
