Women’s History Month full of events
March 3, 2003
The goal of organizers of campus events for Women’s History Month, which runs through March, is to draw attention to gender issues though a variety of speakers and activities.
The celebration will kick off with International Women’s Week, which will run Feb. 28 through March 6.
The focus of the week is to “give the international women a forum to speak out on their issues and their experiences on this campus,” said Shealyn Rentschler, program coordinator for the Margaret Sloss Center.
The week will feature events including Latin and belly dancing workshops, international food and entertainment and an origami-making workshop, Rentschler said.
The rest of March will be filled with speakers and events centered around issues pertaining to women.
One of the highlights of the month will be the March 5 presentation by Jennifer Baumgardner and Amy Richards, titled “Braless Banshees vs. Brainless Barbies: Feminism for Today.” Baumgardner and Richards are co-authors of the book “Manifesta: Young Women, Feminism, and the Future.”
